What Are The Most Common Fridge Repair Issues?

Many of us have no idea what life is like without a refrigerator. Therefore, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with some of the issues you're likely to face with your fridge. Just like any other appliance, your fridge has certain components within it that can fail due to any one of a number of reasons.

However, some of these issues are more likely to occur and this also means that there are known ways of handling these issues when they occur.

Defective Thermostat

The thermostat is what is used to control the temperature of the refrigerator. Although you may just see the knob used to adjust the thermostat, it has other components that are used to sense the temperature and tell the compressor whether to turn on or off.

A defective thermostat will tell the compressor not to turn on or off at the wrong time. Therefore, you won't be able to attain or maintain the right temperature in your fridge.

Dirty Condenser Coils

One of the simplest things you can do to keep your fridge working properly is to clean the condenser coils at the back. Unfortunately, this is one thing that many people neglect to do. Dirty condenser coils cannot dissipate heat properly and this will cause the fridge to operate inefficiently or to fail completely. Other parts of the fridge may also be damaged by the excess heat.

Low Coolant Level

The coolant is the gas/liquid that the fridge uses to cool the items placed within it. Coolant levels in the system can become low due to a leak or some other issue. The coolant will have to be topped up and any leaks will have to be sealed. This is a fridge repair job that should only be done by professionals.

Faulty Compressor

The compressor is the heart of the refrigerator. The compressor is what sends the coolant running throughout the system. If the compressor isn't working, the fridge will not be able to cool anything. Ensure the compressor is kept clean and well lubricated.

Evaporator Fan Motor

The evaporator fan sucks in air from the refrigerator and this is passed over the evaporator coils to be cooled before going back to the fridge. The motor is an essential component of the evaporator fan. This motor is known to fail due to wear and tear. The motor must be replaced for the fridge to function.
